“ We came on a weekday around 6 PM and it was loud and busy! When you arrive you can head to the back and pick out your seafood. Then, you get in line to order your sides, pay, and let them know how you want your seafood cooked. After that, we had to stand around in the limited space that was available until a table cleared up. There are workers helping clear the tables and seat you, but the whole process can be a bit confusing and hectic. After you're seated the workers will bring your food as it's ready. For 4 people we ordered 5 types of seafood and 5 sides. I thought the quality and flavor of the seafood was good and worth the price. My favorite was the fried calamari. All of the sides were just okay and my least favorite was the noodles as some parts were hard and dry. Knowing the process now, I think it would be a bit smoother next time, but it definitely requires some patience to dine here. ”

“ What are the odds that I worked down the block for the last 6 weeks and learned this place existed 48 hours ago. My colleague J was like ya it's been there forever. 1st chance I got to go was my last day in the area go figure. I walk in and am not sure if they were open around 12:15. There was a total of 5 patrons in there and at 12:16 there was like 20. The place was suddenly bang booming busy. I had to stop taking photos and immediately decide what I would order not being familiar with the process. You can buy raw or cooked or raw and have it cooked fresh and CLEAN seafood. Not having time on my side I opted for the stuffed shrimps, lemony potatoes and a small Greek salad. Yall.... I wanted to fight J for gatekeeping this place!! Not only was the food amazing! These guys have a nice seating area AND BYOB! Next time I want seafood I'm going here!! I keep yelling with the exclamations bc I was truly delightfully surprised. Everyone seemed short tempered (it's NY) after all. But some young guy who seems to be in charge gave me a heads up on how things work and was fast and efficient. I look forward to having to be in the area again and would recommend to ANYONE! Wild variety, place to park, close to public trans. I don't think this is a hidden gem bc I everyone and they mama told me I was late. But is definitely a fire spot to eat seafood. ”

“ Wow, what a truly unique and chaotic experience haha. Overall the food is not particularly outstanding but I do feel like it's the vibes that are what makes this place special. Definitely recommend coming early (5pm) even on a weekday if you are easily overwhelmed/impatient. It also seemed to clear up around 730pm on a Tuesday. If you're looking for some instructions, here you go: 1. Head straight to the back where the seafood is. 2. Grab some bags and just fill them up with whatever seafood you want. There was a worker sitting with the bags who also helped give us some instructions :) 3. Get back in line for the cashier register. 4. Hand over your seafood (they'll start weighing it for you) and tell them how you'd like each cooked (fried, grilled, blackened, filleted, etc). 5. Order any other stuff like sides and drinks (octopus legs are ordered at the counter, aside from what's on display they also have bread and fries and honestly who knows what) 6. Pay, get your receipt / give them your name 7. Wait for a server to help seat you (they might ask for your name/receipt or you might have to let them know you're waiting for a table) 8. Sit back and relax! It's BYOB with no extra charge. Food Some favorites were the fried calamari, grilled scallops, and fried fish. I also liked the grilled octopus but it was a bit chewy. Grilled sea bass came last and it was only ok for me. For sides we got hot spinach, Greek salad, French fries, noodles and garlic bread. The noodles had some shrimp and squid in it. Would only recommend the Greek salad, garlic bread, and maybe fries if you really want it. We ordered size small for the sides but it was still a pretty good portion (split amongst 4 ppl) Service Seemed like a couple people around us were struggling with service (had missing items). The only thing I can say is, order your drinks at the counter! You can't add drinks afterwards at the table (would have to order and pay at counter). Pacing of our food was ok (sides and fish all came out at random times) and we didn't have any issues with our orders. ”

“ Astoria Seafood is legendary. Yet somehow it is still underrated. It is among the freshest and best seafood experiences of my life. And really, it's just straight up one of the coolest restaurants. The vibe is fish market. And actually, that's appropriate because it really is a fish market with a grill. You just glove up, grab a few plastic bags, and pick out your fish from the teeming selection, then proceed to the counter and choose one of two options for each--fried or grilled. For best results, I recommend frying the little guys, grilling the big ones, and always, ALWAYS getting grilled shrimp. They're fantastic. Astoria Seafood is the kind of restaurant that you need to love for what it is, rather than judge it for what it is not. For instance, it is not exactly a white tablecloth environment. And if, like a moron, you show up at 7 on a Friday night expecting to eat immediately, you will be disappointed. It also does not sell alcohol (although, arguably better, it is BYOB). My point is this, Astoria Seafood is a unique and delicious experience and a true Queens landmark. It has major block party energy and just feels festive. So long as you understand what it is, it will be one of the most fun and tasty meals of your year. ”

“ Astoria Seafood is a one-of-a-kind, pick-your-own-adventure dining experience. You handpick your fresh seafood, and they cook it (though if you're a first timer, probably best to ask the staff for recommendations). The branzino was an absolute standout--simple, fresh, and packed with flavor. The casual, no-frills vibe adds to the charm, and the prices are super reasonable for the quality. Astoria Seafood isn't always super consistent, but I think that comes with the territory. Free bread is provided so long as you ask. Just a heads up, it gets packed here on weekends. ”

“ Great place to stop by for some seafood. This place can get really hectic on the weekend so come early! It's a casual seafood market where you can pick out the seafood yourself. We got an assortment of seafood including scallops, shrimp, calamari and fish. After picking out or seafood, you wait in line to check out and tell them how you want the food prepared. They do charge a few extra dollars per pound to cook the food, which I didn't see mentioned anywhere. After paying, we found a table and waited for our food. It probably took about 45 minutes to come. All the seafood was fresh, and doused with olive oil and garlic. It's also a BYOB with a liquor store around the corner. Overall, it's a fun experience but only come here if you have a few hours to spend. ”

“ Always such a treat to come here! Crowded as usual, we arrived around 5:30pm for dinner and worried that there would be a long line. Thankfully no long line out the door but definitely bustling inside! There were many tables and some even next to each other. We had a 4 top table and we were right next to a 6 persons group. No gap in between the table, as if we were sharing the same long table. We did not mind. That's what I call family style! It was challenging to get around the tables, as everyone was so nestled in. The fresh seafood was at the back, two long rows of whole fresh fish, shellfish, fish filets, shrimps all to your hearts desire! They even had some of my favorites like the razor clams and Barbounia! All very reasonably priced too to top it all off! We ordered a ton of food to share, razor clams, Barbounia (1 grilled and 1 piece fried, to get a taste of both! Fried was better!), anchovies (fried), grilled calamari, whole dorado fish grilled, huge shrimps grilled, and a ton of sides such as beets, spinach, spanakopita. Wonderfully and simply cooked, already looking forward to return! And also service was excellent! Efcharistó! ”

“ One of the 4 best mediterranean seafood restaurants in astoria. Get everything on the menu to try. The fish was excellent, shrimps were big and meaty, clams were balanced, octopus was delicious, and salad was refreshing. Long wait time and somewhat dinky ambiance. ”
